I and my family live in Marblehead, Massachusetts, a small coastal town with a picturesque harbor full of boats (in summer), a maze if winding streets lined with crooked old houses, and oodles of charm.

This makes it somewhat easy for me to indulge in my habit of getting on a plane whenever I can, and going places I’ve always wanted to go — because Marblehead is most definitely not a bad place to return home to.

My wife and I are Europhiles. Her Irish family owns a house in County Clare and we go there often. It’s one of the most incredible places I’ve been. My mother was Italian and my father Greek. When I was a kid they talked a lot about “The Old Country,” and maybe that’s what ignited my curiosity about the world. Also my father got it into his head to join the Peace Corps when I was 11, and we lived in Ecuador for a year.

Lately I’ve been reconnecting with relatives in Greece — mostly second cousins I never met until I was well into my 50s. This explains why many of my posts are about Greece, and why I plan to return again and again.

Stay tuned and keep traveling.
